Oyster Occasions at 10 at Claymore (Pan Pacific Orchard)

June 12, 2016 0 Comments A+ a-

From now till 31 July 2016, you can indulge in unlimited servings of oysters from Canada, France, Ireland, USA and New Zealand at 10 at Claymore's Oyster Occasions!

This oyster-themed buffet dinner is back again by popular demand, and it is easy to see why it is so popular. Each of the oysters are carefully handpicked to enthral even the most sophisticated palate and freshly shucked to order. It also showcases 10 at Claymore's famous Penang fare, including Char Kway Teow and Chendol. Value-for-money and sure to tantalise the most discerning diner, this seasonal buffet certainly should not be missed!

Oysters Galore
As mentioned, the highlight of the entire buffet is the oysters. Freshly shucked in front of you, they are as fresh as you can get without having to travel to a place like Sydney Fish Market.

While the US Pacific Oysters had unique sweet-and-salty cucumber undertones, the French Normandie and Canadian Fanny Bay Pacific Oysters were our favourite. Sweet, creamy, fleshy and juicy, they were really the highlight our meal.

Of course, something has to be said about the value you get here. Considering that the Fin de Claires at DB Bistro are $9++ a piece, spending $98++ for 2 pax for unlimited oysters and a full buffet is a steal!

So don't be surprised by why everyone makes a beeline for the oysters once seated. At the peak, the queues could last up to 15 minutes, but it's certainly worth the wait.

Seafood on Ice
If you prefer to indulge in other cold seafood first, the Seafood on Ice is a great option. With Boston lobsters, Queen Roe scallops, clams and freshly-sliced sashimi, the selection and quality is certainly on par with other comparable dining establishments such as The Line, Triple Three and Colony.

Salad, Rojak and Cheeses
For healthier options (wait, I think you should toss this aside at buffets), be awed by the selection of the salads and do-it-yourself rojak.

The artisan cheeses are worth mentioning too. Apart from the usual blue cheese, we recommend the Chilli & Lime Cheddar from the UK. For those who love spices, chilli and cheese is a memorably unique must-try combination!

Meats & Carvings
As with usual buffets, the carving stations with ham and roast were popular.

But let us tell you a secret. If you are optimising your stomach space, go straight for the freshly-seared US Angus Beef. It was one of the most succulent and tender beef we have had and comparable to steakhouse quality. Don't let the sauces overwhelm the beef though, as the beef is well-marinated and so juicy and flavourful. Definitely one of the highlights for us as well!

Main courses
For those going with older family members who prefer the typical hot dishes, the wide selection of Lor Mai Fan, broccoli, curry mutton, pan-fried salmon and the likes would certainly satisfy too.

And what's Penang Fare without Penang Laksa and Prawn Mee? Head over to the live stations for the chefs to take your order on the spot!

Plates of Pleasure
If that's not enough, remember to order the ala-carte petite-sized signature items from the Plates of Pleasure menu. Unlimited servings allowed. Prepared ala-minute.

We especially recommend the fois gras and Chef Andy Oh's award-winning Char Kway Teow :)

Dessert
Dessert is always one of the most anticipated time of a meal. So many lovely colourful cakes greeted us once we stepped in and we saw a child run straight to pinch a cake actually!

The Lemongrass and Ginger Ice Cream is a perfect way to round up the evening. Comparable to Halia's signature ginger ice cream, it was especially refreshing after a full meal. One of the must-have desserts!

Overall
Overall, it was one of the most hearty dinner buffets we ever had. What makes this buffet special is that you can have all our favourites all at one go - with unorthodox pairing of fresh oysters and lobsters laksa, char kway teow and chendol (and nobody will laugh at you).

This is the go-to place to get your oyster fix as it offers unlimited oysters both in quantity and quality. With such a wide variety of appetisers, hot dishes and dessert, we certainly recommend this for your next family dinner!
